Hey Guys ! As promised, here's the second product review of the bag series! Today we are going to check out the Lowe Pro Flipside 400AW. I purchased this little fella three years ago. Rather compact and discreet, it looks like a regular back pack, if it weren't for the Lowpro logo on the back. http://www.digit-photo.com/Sacs_a_dos-aFA0076/LOWEPRO_Sac_a_Dos_Flipside_400_AW_Noir-rLOWEPROLPT35271N.html A rather unique feature for this item: you can only access the main compartment from the back. Meaning -> you have to drop the bag in order to reach your gear... but not always ! :) Lowpro added a belt to the bag allowing you to flip it in front of you. Bend it over and you'll have direct and comfortable access to the gear. It really comes in handy when you're in the wild. The load capacity is pretty impressive. I can fit up to 2 DSLR bodies, 5 lenses and a flash plus all the little accessories that go along. The interior is entirely customizable with soft parts using velcro. Small pockets on the sides allow water bottles or some more gear, clothes, etc. The front pocket is large and the inside is rather well conceived. There is an inside pocket to put delicate things. That is where I put all my personal stuff ... keys, cell phone, wallet but only when I'm in nature . In the city I would never offer this opportunity to pick pockets. :D I walked hours with it on my shoulders and never experienced major pain. Walking with a fully loaded bag (up to 12 kg) during a tough hike would be an other story. Lowpro put some nice fabric (like small fishnet) on the parts that touch your back and your shoulders; so you don't sweat too much Lowepro, as they always do on their AW BackPacks, put an extra rain-cover tucked away in a hidden bottom pocket. I used it only once, in Britany where I got caught in a sudden storm coming from the ocean. But the fabric used for the bag itself is resistant enough to endure small rains. I often carry a tripod with me and I was disappointed by the lack of tripod support on the bag. When I put the tripod on (using the small retractable tripod mount and the appropriate handles) the tripod tends to bend backward. I use a small rope I scavenged from another bag in order to reinforce the whole thing.

If you want more info / photos just tell me ! Cheers ! Thibaut :) Hey Guys, I've decided to go over some bags of mine. Short reviews and +/- for each of them ... Hope it can help you make a wiser decision if you need to get one for yourself !! Because it's not always about hiking or high mobility and sometimes you just need to blend in... camera shoulder bags often offer the best alternative. Back in 09, Senior at Rider University, I discovered the Domke F-2B shoulder bag at the B&H store in NY. So far I only had a smaller lower Pro slingshot 200 (a review is coming next). For some time, I was looking for a different shape and more discrete camera bag. I like the shape of the bag - it made me think of camera bags used by reporters and journalists. So I went for it ! http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/15975-REG/Domke_700_F2B_F_2B_Original_Ballistic_Shoulder.html Made in the USA, the bag is well made. Seams are tough and you already feel that this bag will last for a long time. The fabric is ballistic nylon but I personally call it "dragon skin" (cf photo). It can endure dust, rain and even other projectiles .. (I tried it in one of the many demonstrations which occurred in France :) ) The interior is sober and uncluttered. Space is divided in 5 squares. One main section for the body + a lens on and 4 little ones for lenses and accessories. (cf photo). I regret the absence of a device to attach a tripod. As its name tell us it's a shoulder bad..... accessibility to your stuff is awesome.... though ... you have to carry the weight on one shoulder - after a couple hours or a long walk it hurts. I used this bag for parties or socials events... where a photo back pack is just not appropriate :) I have had this bag for 4 years now and I am really happy with it.
I Hope you liked it ! You are welcome to comment and give your advice.

Later alligator ;) When it comes down to catching the right emotion, for close up portraits what lens do you use? I personally use the 1.4f 50 mm Nikon lens. It's super wide opening allows me to get incredible neat photos in tough lighting environments even at 100 ISO.
A "must have" if you ask me! I'll share some shots I took with that one really soon ! See you later :) Hey Guys,
I did it, I switched to NIKON. After nearly 7 years of allegiance to Pentax. Several reasons helped me make my decision: - No Full Frame sensors on Pentax DSLR. I got tired waiting... - I find Nikon to be more dynamic and professional. - The number of quality lenses available for nikon DSLRs - My GF 's got a Nikon and playing with it was a nice approach. / it kinda dragged me into the brand :p - A sales man from Pentax blew me off one day, saying that I would never be ready to sale all my pentax gear to do the switch .... I'd like to say... "try me" and thank you EBAY :p It's been almost a year now and I am truly thrilled with the result ! :) Later Guys ! |
